About Me

My general interests include artificial intelligence, deep learning, and natural language processing. I am particularly interested in the following fields:

Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing
Conversational AI (Dialog systems, conversational agents, QA, reading comprehension, etc.)

Language Generation or Text Generation (long text, story, data-to-text etc.)

I was awarded as Distinguished Young Scholars of National Science Foundation in 2021, and supported by NSFC key projects.

I am leading a research group named Conversational AI (CoAI, GitHub link), and my group is developing a dialog system toolkit, ConvLab (collaboration with Microsoft, GitHub link). Some research highlights are as follows:

My group published "Commonsense Knowledge Aware Conversation Generation with Graph Attention" (data link) which for the first time leverages commonsense knowledge in large-scale neural dialog systems, was awarded as Distinguished paper by IJCAI-ECAI 2018 (out of 710 accepted papers, from 3470 submissions).
My group published Emotional Chatting Machine (AAAI 2018) which for the first time addresses the emotion factor in large-scale neural dialog systems, was reported by 参考消息，新华社，MIT Technology Review, the Guardian, and NIVIDIA. This paper is also highly cited in the literature.
My group won SIGDIAL 2020 best paper award "Is Your Goal-Oriented Dialog Model Performing Really Well? Empirical Analysis of System-wise Evaluation" for "Performs a comprehensive evaluation that allows the assessment of goal-oriented dialogues on an overall basis, with important lessons for researchers and developers of dialogues systems" .
My group won NLPCC 2020 best student paper award "A Large-Scale Chinese Short-Text Conversation Dataset" for constructing a large-scale Chinese dialog dataset and a Chinese pretraining dialog model (CDial-GPT, Github link).
My paper "Linguistically Regularized LSTMs for Sentiment Classification"(ACL 2017) was voted as Top 15 NLP papers in 2016 by PaperWeekly; and "Reinforcement Learning for Relation Classification from Noisy Data" (AAAI 2018) was voted as Top 10 NLP papers in 2017 by PaperWeekly.
Our paper titled "Directed Acyclic Transformer for Non-Autoregressive Machine Translation" (ICML 2022) introduced the first non-autoregressive text generation model that surpasses the performance of the autoregressive Transformer by achieving 7-14 times faster decoding speeds and improved translation quality.
In our subsequent work, "Directed Acyclic Transformer Pre-training for High-quality Non-autoregressive Text Generation" (TACL 2023) further advanced this concept by incorporating pre-training into the directed acyclic transformer. This resulted in even better performance compared to similarly-sized pre-trained autoregressive models, while maintaining a decoding throughput of approximately 17 times faster. The pre-trained weights for this model are publicly accessible on Github (https://github.com/thu-coai/DA-Transformer).
